Glen Morrow

Glen is the Managing Partner of Morrow Petersen. He specialises in corporate and business advice, problem solving, corporate and family restructuring (including tax implications), construction law, insolvency and dispute resolution.

In the course of obtaining his degree he was awarded the Walter Harrison Prize for equity, commercial and land law, and the Butterworths Prize for succession law, and has since secured a reputation as one of Cairns' leading lawyers.

Major Projects And Clients

As a director and legal adviser to NQEA Australia Pty Ltd, Cairn's largest industrial concern, which is involved in shipbuilding, ship repair, and heavy engineering for the sugar and mining industries, Glen has handled the following major transactions:

  • A $200M contract with the Department of Defence to construct naval vessels
  • A $40M contract to construct a dredge for the Port of Brisbane Corporation
  • A $35M financing facility with Suncorp-Metway in respect of the dredge transaction
  • A $20M contract to build a cruise vessel
  • A $15M contract to construct a bulk ore carrier for the MacArthur River mine and related financing facility
  • An $8M sale of a hovercraft to Angola
  • The repurchase by NQEA from the State Government of Cairns Slipways - an $8M+ transaction

In addition, Glen has handled numbers of other major commercial transactions including the following:

  • Public float of CEC Group Limited
  • The sale of Broadley Auto Group (with assets in excess of $25M)
  • Undertaking due diligence on NQEA in respect of proposed acquisitions by third parties
  • Family restructure of Caravella group of companies and the sale of Ferntree Rainforest Resort

In addition, Glen has been involved in many landmark dispute matters including the following:

  • Re Trans Pacific Corp (Full Federal Court decision resolving conflict of authorities between State Full Courts on interpretation of Corporations Law insolvency provision)
  • Sciacca v Day Ford Pty Ltd (Full Court decision on operation of Land Sales Act)
  • Bridgewater v Leahy (decision of the High Court of Australia on unconscionability and estate planning - with Tracy Fantin)
  • Re Musterford Pty Ltd (Court of Appeal decision on interpretation of oppression provisions in Corporations Law)
  • actions against Hong Kong Bank and Westpac over Swiss Franc foreign currency loans, action against various financiers, amounts involved $10M - $20M
  • acted for the Mulgrave Mill Suppliers committee challenging a decision of the Local Board in respect of amalgamation of sugar mill areas - claim upheld in Queensland Sugar Tribunal (appeared personally as Counsel against Tony Morris QC)
  • first successful appeal from Queensland Building Tribunal (on extent of builder's recovery on oral contract)

  • LLB (Hons) University of Queensland.
  • 16 December 1983 - admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland
  • Solicitor of the High Court of Australia
